The world premiere of Ethan Lipton’s new musical, The Outer Space, opens March 8 at Joe’s Pub following previews that began February 23. The show, which transports the downtown concert venue into another stratosphere, plays through April 9.
The Outer Space features a book and lyrics by Lipton and is directed by Leigh Silverman.
Lipton also performs in the debut production and is joined onstage by Vito Dieterle, Eben Levy, and Ian Riggs.
The new musical follows two people who buy an old spaceship in the hopes of creating a life somewhere else. ”[They] leave the noise, pollution and overpriced rents of Earth for the vast beauty and treacherous terrain of the final frontier,” read production notes. ”But can they survive the mission?”
The Joe’s Pub staging features scenic and costume design by David Zinn, lighting design by Ben Stanton, and sound design by Nicholas Pope.
Tickets to the world premiere are available by calling (212) 967-7555, visiting Publictheater.org, or in person at the Taub Box Office at The Public Theater, located at 425 Lafayette Street, New York.
