A developmental lab of the Beetlejuice musical is set to take place in September. Tony nominee Alex Timbers remains on board as director; joining him on the creative team is choreographer Connor Gallagher.
The musical, based on the 1988 dark comedy about a recently deceased couple and the ghoulish bio-exorcist they hire to scare the new tenants out of their house, will feature a score by Australian musician and comedian Eddie Perfect and a book by Anthony King and Scott Brown. Perfect is also at work on the Broadway-bound King Kong musical.
A previous reading took place in May earlier this year. The upcoming lab presentation will take place September 5–29. No word yet on casting for the project.
Beetlejuice is in development through Warner Bros. Theatre Ventures, currently represented on Broadway with Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. The group’s additional upcoming titles include Night Shift and Dog Day Afternoon.
