Following the death of playwright and librettist Joe Masteroff, Roundabout Theatre Company will pay tribute with a ceremonial marquee dimming at Broadway’s American Airlines Theatre. The 42nd Street venue will dim its lights October 17 at 5:45 PM for one minute.

Mr. Masteroff, who died September 28 at the age of 98, penned the books for Cabaret and She Loves Me—two shows that are part of Roundabout Theatre Company’s history of producing celebrated musical revivals. Roundabout presented the Sam Mendes-helmed revival of Cabaret in 1998, which ran for nearly six years; it returned to Studio 54 in 2014. The New York company has revived She Loves Me twice: in 1993 and 2016.

“We deeply mourn the loss of our friend Joe Masteroff, one of the 20th century’s masters of the Great American Musical,” said Roundabout Artistic Director/CEO Todd Haimes in a statement. “His She Loves Me and Cabaret helped shape our theatre, and we were honored to present them both on Broadway. Joe was a close collaborator, a legendary wit, and a dear friend. Our thoughts and prayers are with his friends and family.”
