The Davenport Theatre, located at 354 West 45th St., has closed its doors.
Tony-winning producer Ken Davenport, who took over the intimate space in 2014, posted on his blog, “So why’s it closing? I never owned the building (if only!), and my lease is up. And we’re not re-upping for the #1 reason why most leases aren’t renewed: We couldn’t make a deal.”
The final production at the space, which was named for Davenport's grandfather, Delbert Essex Davenport, wasSt. Louis Actors Studio production of the 4th annual LaBute New Theater Festival. Previous productions seen at the venue included Popcorn Falls, directed by Tony winner Christian Borle, the long-running Afterglow, Daddy Long Legs, Pageant, Shear Madness, Money Talks, Endangered! The Musical, Men and Women Talking Love and Sex, and Gerard Alessandrini’s Forbidden Broadway Comes Out Swinging!.
Davenport is a two-time Tony-winning producer of Kinky Boots and the revival of Once On This Island.
