Casting has been announced for the world premiere of Hansol Jung’s play with music Wild Goose Dreams, which will run September 5–October 1 in San Diego, California.
Directed by Tony nominee Leigh Silverman (Violet, Well, Chinglish), Wild Goose Dreams will officially open September 10 in the Mandell Weiss Forum.
According to La Jolla, the play centers on the unlikely online romance that starts between a North Korean defector who has left her family behind and a lonely South Korean father.
The play was seen Off-Broadway earlier this season at the Public Theater.
The cast will feature Yunjin Kim (Lost) as Yoo Nanhee, James Kyson (Heroes, Hawaii 5-0) as Gook Minsung, and Obie winner Francis Jue (Pacific Overtures, Yellow Face) as Father with Carolyn Agan, Julian Cihi, Rona Figueroa, Samantha Wang, DeLeon Dallas, Kyle Hester, and Kimberly Monks.
The creative team includes Paul Castles, composer; Charity Wicks, music supervisor; Yasmine Lee, choreographer; Wilson Chin, scenic designer; Linda Cho, costume designer; Keith Parham, lighting designer; Joanna Lynne Staub, sound designer; Gabriel Greene, dramaturg; and Melanie J. Lisby, stage manager.
Jung, who is from South Korea, has written Cardboard Piano (Humana Fest), Among the Dead (Ma-Yi Theater), No More Sad Things, and Wolf Play. She has translated over 30 English musicals into Korean, including Evita, Dracula, Spamalot, and The 25th Annual…Spelling Bee, while working on several award-winning musical theatre productions as director, lyricist, and translator in Seoul, South Korea.
