Entitled the Eclipse Theatre Company, the organization will focus on new and classic musicals in Toronto.
Kennedy, who was also seen on Broadway as Mary Magdalene in the 2012 revival of Jesus Christ Superstar, serves as artistic producer of ETC with director Evan Tsitsias as the artistic director and actor Sara-Jeanne Hosie as the executive director.
Kennedy told The Globe and Mail, “I wanted to help foster new Canadian work, and I felt it was important to reinvest in theatre that already existed in new and innovative ways.”
The company will kick off its programming in March 2019 with a five-performance concert run of Kiss of the Spider Woman, staged in a now-closed Toronto correctional facility. That will be followed in September 2019 by a five-actor mounting of Call It Love, featuring songs from Kennedy's 2015 solo album, What You Find in a Bottle.
Eclipse Theatre Company also features a group of associate artists, including directors, composers, and performers. For more information, visit ElcipseTheatre.ca.
