The North American tour of Jim Steinman’s Bat Out of Hell – The Musical will go on hiatus following its current Toronto engagement (set to conclude November 4). The tour was set to officially kick off November 6 at the Fox Theatre in Detroit.

A recently announced eight-week run at New York City Center in summer 2019 will not be affected.

"The show is being postponed and everyone involved is working on rescheduling,” a spokesperson for the production told Playbill.

Based on the cult 1977 Meat Loaf album of the same name (composed by Steinman), Bat Out of Hell is produced by David Sonenberg, Michael Cohl, Randy Lennox, and Tony Smith.

Producer Cohl was also behind the canceled 2014 North American tour of Jesus Christ Superstar, abruptly called off just days before performances were to begin. The Really Useful Group, the producing and rights licensing company that oversees the works of composer Andrew Lloyd Webber, later announced it was suing the producer.

Cohl was also attached to an announced tour of Spider-Man and the Off-Broadway transfer of A Night With Janis Joplin, both of which didn't materialize.

Under the direction of by Jay Scheib, the touring production of Bat Out of Hell was scheduled to perform in San Francisco, Washington, D.C., Los Angeles, Denver, Boston, Philadelphia, and Dallas, among other cities.

The production stars Andrew Polec (who starred as Strat in the London and Toronto engagements of the show). Polec is joined by Emily Schultheis as Raven, Bradley Dean as Falco, Lulu Lloyd as Sloane, Avionce Hoyles as Tink, Harper Miles as Zahara, and Tyrick Wiltez Jones as Jagwire.

Cast members have taken to social media to express their dismay at the news of the abrupt change in schedule.
