Position to be filled - Tour Actor/Educator/Company Manager

This is a new hybrid growth position for CSA, a combination of two positions, Actor/Educator and Company Manager. CSA Co-Founders Rob & Lorrie Gray held similar positions for 20 years, touring heavily during the company’s early years, and less as the organization grew and matured, and additional staff were hired.

Candidates must be willing to tour as Actor/Educator while learning and taking on the responsibilities of the Company Manager. Eventually less time touring and more time managing company responsibilities will happen.

CSA Programs and Services

Children’s Stage Adventures is a unique New Hampshire based theatre company that conducts Weeklong Theatre Residencies in schools, for arts organizations and at summer camps. During each residency week, 50 - 60 local children perform in an original, high quality musical/comedy production of a classic children’s tale alongside two professional actors. CSA provides professionally designed costumes and scenery, all scripts, scores and make-up.

Two professional Actor/Educators from CSA audition and cast 50-60 students, ranging in age from kindergarten through grade 8.They lead the cast through a concentrated five-day rehearsal schedule, during which the cast learns songs, dances and lines. The week culminates in two public performances, when the children take to the stage in a full musical production to the delight and amazement of families, teachers, classmates and community members.

CSA History

CSA, Inc. is a fee for service 501 (c) 3 Non-Profit Organization, founded by Rob & Lorrie Gray in 1999. Ten musical touring productions make up the company’s repertoire. Fifty Actor-Educators have been employed by CSA since 2004. Each year, pre-pandemic, CSA conducted 65-75 residency weeks, allowing 3500 children to shine onstage. The organization plans to return to a similar touring schedule in 2023. CSA already has 48 contracts for the 2023-24 tour. This position is being created following the recent death of Lorrie Gray.

Job Description - Tour Actor/Educator

The following are general responsibilities of CSA Inc. staff position Tour Actor/Educator (non-union). The supervisor for the position is the Executive Director. Tour Actor/Educator work hours, including travel time, will vary. Flexibility is required. This is a list of the minimum duties of the position.

Responsibilities

Prior to Training

Learn Lines (verbatim) and lyrics to songs
Become familiar with melodies of show’s songs
Become familiar with theatre workshop outlines
Fill out and return all administrative documents
Adjust appearance (hair length, facial hair, etc.) as it relates to specific role and company
guidelines

During Training

Learn/rehearse blocking for entire show
Learn/rehearse melodies to songs and choreography
Learn/rehearse teaching process and audition process
Learn all logistics of the tour process
Learn all Theatre Enrichment Workshops
Develop specialty workshop (with tour partner)
Learn technical aspects of the tour process
Set-up, repair and operation of set, lights, sound
Application/Design of make-up specific to show
Distribution, care and repair of costumes
Work on set, costumes, props, lights, etc. as needed

On Tour – During Residencies Daily

Rehearse two two-hour sessions (including audition)
Leave rehearsal spaces tidy - restore furniture as found
Supervise student breaks and departures

Meet with the sponsor contact prior to auditions
Meet with the accompanist
Conduct workshops as necessary (extra compensation over three)
Conduct Auditions and Cast Show Weekly
Issue rehearsal schedule/parent letter #1
Contact next week’s sponsor
Complete and submit tour report / financial report for previous residency week
Introduce the accompanist into the process
Issue Show Day schedule/parent letter #2
Launder costumes
Call the Home Office
Assemble the set, lights, sound, etc.
Conduct dress rehearsal and performances
Conduct photo sessions after each performance
Collect costumes
Strike set, lights, sound, props, etc.
Load truck
Travel to next residency
Follow school’s COVID protocols and be tested as necessary (or required)

Submit all archival material (video tapes, blocking script, diagrams, inventories, repair lists, etc.)

Daily needs of the company can change. The Executive Director may request other duties not listed above

Qualifications and Education Requirements

Minimum Education/Work Experience Requirements:

· BA/BFA Degree (or equivalent experience) in theatre, education, music and/or related field

· Experience in educational/theatrical environment working with K-8 students including a proven track record of teaching and/or directing

Minimum Qualifications:

· Excellent communication skills

· Adventuresome personality to live a touring lifestyle for extended lengths of time

· The ability to manage and perform multiple tasks and priorities at the same time

· Musical ability – both performing and teaching (vocally)

· Confidence in using basic office technologies (Microsoft Office 365, QuickBooks, etc.)

· Willingness to work some nights and weekends

· The satisfactory completion of a state and federal background check

Desirable Qualifications:

· Some familiarity with K-12 curriculum (in theatre and/or other content area)

· Familiarity with various elements of technical theatre

· Experience with arts administration

· Experience overseeing and evaluating staff

Compensation: Tour Actor/Educator Range: $32,000 – $36,000 (non-union)

Housing expense is covered by presenting organization during residency weeks.
Below are compensation components/amounts for a projected 5-month tour.
CSA tours year-round and contract lengths can vary.

Salary $1200.00/month x 5 months = $6000.00
Per Diem* $210.00/week x 22 weeks = $4620.00
Bonus $100.00/week x 20 weeks = $2000.00
Extras (workshops) $25.00/workshop x 10 workshops = $ 250.00
T-shirts $100.00/week x 20 weeks = $2000.00
Total Income Potential = $14,870.00

*not paid for un-booked weeks unless working at the home office or for scheduled travel time.

Salary Range: Company Manager Range $38,000 - $42,000

Position Type: Full Time Exempt – Permanent

Start Date: Early 2023 preferred
