The Forbes Center for the Performing Arts at James Madison University is seeking candidates for a Technical & Operations Coordinator. Reporting to the Production Services Manager the position provides production support to School of Music classes, performances, student recitals, guest artists and professional dance, theatre and music touring companies. 

The position works closely with staff, faculty, students and guest artists and interacts with members of the public. The coordinator must present themselves professionally and courteously to all individuals and be able to conduct their work with discretion and diplomacy.

The position requires variable work hours including evenings, weekends and extended shifts. The work environment is often fast paced and deadline driven and the coordinator must be able to prioritize and multi-task.


The Forbes Center for the Performing Arts opened in 2010 and the 175,000 square foot facility houses five venues which serve as educational spaces for the Schools of Music and Theatre and Dance and provide the city of Harrisonburg and surrounding communities with access to student performances as well as world-renowned guest artists and touring productions.


Duties and responsibilities

-Run School of Music performances, select professional performances and other events at the Center.
-Connect with faculty, student performers, and guest artists to advance the technical needs for performances and events.
-Set-up stage equipment, lighting and sound equipment as required.
-Program lighting for shows as required.
-Maintain and troubleshoot venue and production equipment.
-Run assigned rehearsals and performances as the stage manager when needed.
-Supervise, mentor and coach student and seasonal employees.
-Maintain and update production documents and calendars.
-Perform other duties as assigned.


-Experience with theatrical lighting, sound, projection, rigging and staging is required. 
-Experience with theatrical counterweight fly system is required.
-Significant professional theatre experience with emphasis in theatrical lighting and sound.
-Stage management experience is preferred.
-Degree in Technical Theatre, Theatre Arts Management or similar field is preferred.
-Proficiency with Word, Excel, Outlook and Powerpoint is required.
-Experience with Vectorworks and QLab is preferred.
-Knowledge of ETC EOS lighting consoles, dimming systems, conventional, LED and intelligent lighting fixtures is required.
