DESCRIPTION
Consistent with its programmatic emphasis in creating enchanting destinations for arts in the South,
THE ART FARM AT SERENBE and ERIC QUANG GELB are proud to present XANADU as its season opener!
Campily and cleverly making an unlikely match of both the conventions of Greek theatre and the themes of the rockin’ 80s, this all-new production is built just for the Art Farm. Inviting audiences to take their seats outside, you’ve never been closer to the action at the Art Farm’s very own, totally rad, roller rink under the stars. Inspired by, and featuring the music of the cult classic major motion picture of the same name, XANADU follows the Greek muse Kira’s descent from Mount Olympus the Venice Beach. When she embarks on a journey to inspire Sonny, a struggling artist, on his quest for artistic achievement, roller skates whiz past in a flurry of forbidden love, conniving sisters, and fantasy sequences in this unique theatrical experience.
Directed by Eric Quang Gelb and performed by a world-class of NYC performers, XANADU is a high-flying, roller-skating musical adventure about art, love and inspiration. Stay after the show and enjoy a cocktail, good tunes and more throwback fun as the stage opens into a party!
THE ART FARM AT SERENBE, established in 2020, is an arts incubator that commissions, hosts & presents a wide variety of productions and artists, all dedicated to inspiring art - from the ballet, the opera, to bespoke productions. Last year, The Art Farm was proud to present Little Shop of Horrors in their “Under the Tent” Series in a purpose-built tent, starring Diana DeGarmo as Audrey and Ben Crawford as the Dentist. The Art Farm previously hosted its “Broadway in the Woods” series, welcoming stars Megan Hilty, Joshua Henry and Jeremy Jordan.
Built in 2004, Serenbe is a blooming wellness community connected to nature, sitting upon 1,700 acres of preserved forests and meadows, all just forty minutes from Atlanta. Miles of nature trails connect homes and restaurants with arts and businesses. The Art Farm is generously funded, in part, by every property owner in Serenbe, GA.

ERIC QUANG GELB is no stranger to non-traditional theatrical environments, with a niche in theatrical experiences that meet at the intersection of environment and immersion. With work spanning the streets of NYC as part of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade Creative Producing team, the high seas on Norwegian Cruise Line and under the hot Florida sun in its world-class theme parks, Eric is thrilled to be a guest artist making magic at Serenbe. On Broadway, Eric co-produced Head Over Heels. He is currently represented Off-Broadway as a co-producer on the hit Off-Broadway revival of Little Shop of Horrors, and directs regionally across the country.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:
YOU:
- Nuts & Bolts
- 18+
- Non-Union
- We are happy to consider performers with representation, however, the Art Farm and EQGP can only correspond with performers directly.
- Able to lift up to 50 lbs., push/pull 100lbs, stand for extended periods of time (3+ hours), navigate multiple levels of stairs.
- Artistically
- With a small company and an expedited rehearsal process, we are seeking disciplined, technically proficient true triple threats. The priority is performers with a keen eye for striking the balance between sincerity and satire.
- Xanadu fuses many worlds together: the neon lights the 80’s, the stoic seriousness of Greek mythology and the laid back beach vibes of Venice, CA. As such, we are looking for diversity in all its forms - of course gender and racial diversity, but specifically body diversity. We are not concerned with whatever would be incorrectly considered a “Broadway Body”.
- The most important thing is not how many credits you have or how many regional houses you have been employed at, but your passion to get down into the dirt and play, to own a role and see it all the way to the end as a scrappy member of a company.
- Across the board, we are looking for artists who will who will come in day one prepared and ready to play. The model is specifically truncated because we recognize the challenge of shorter runs and how it impacts long-time work commitments; self-discipline is paramount.
- Solution driven, detail-attentive and organized.
- A self-starter - internally accountable and reliable.
- Flexible, yet grounded enough in their own discipline to vocalize curiosities, problems and the like in the moment
- Comfortable and excited (preferably experience with) working outside and/or in unconventional and unique theatrical environments.
- Identity & Personality
- Passionate, fun, quirky personalities.
- Open, strong communicators.
- The Art Farm and Eric Quang Gelb are committed to assembling an ensemble of artists that represent the vast diversity our community needs to create the best art possible. We seek diversity in all its forms - race, body type, gender identity, etc.
- We are Equal Opportunity Employers, who demand a diverse and inclusive work environment. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, or veteran status. Women, minorities, individuals with disabilities, and veterans are encouraged to apply.
BEFORE SUBMITTING, CONSIDER...
- Does the idea of being outside, under the stars, in a beautiful nature preserve excite you? In many ways, the themes of Xanadu - making and creating art - are kismet with the unique circumstances this show will be presented in, but we realize that is not for everyone.
- Xanadu is a co-production between Eric Quang Gelb and the Art Farm, and as such, is not a traditional theatrical building or organization with a shop attached and a lobby. The Art Farm seeks to produce theatre in as close to its natural environment as possible, and as such, Xanadu will be performed outdoors.
- Talent trailers, tents, power generators will be brought into our beautiful field to create a purpose-built environment for the show. Though the show won’t perform outside in extreme weather conditions, it will not be dissimilar to the quirks and inherent nature of performing at theme parks and cruise ships.
- This is a small ensemble, a quick process, and it’s all outside. The Art Farm at Serenbe and Eric Quang Gelb Productions are committed to fostering a safe, reasonable and transparent working environment. Do not mistake our desire for personnel with "strong work ethics" as people happy to be asked to do the impossible. Transparency in compensation, commitment and opportunity is at the forefront of our production model. If spending time in nature, bringing arts to other parts of the country and thinking outside the box sounds exciting to you - we’d love to hear from you.
