Honeyhole

About the show:

In the hotsweatyheat of one southern summer, Lou, a young queer beauty queen meets Ellis, the new girl in town.

Lou begins to realize that the pageant girl life her mama always wanted might not be her ticket out of their few-stoplight-gossipy-sorta-town. in fact, IT might just be the thing that’s holding her back – from becoming who she is, what she wants to be, and doing what she dreams of: hiking the Appalachian Trail like her father once did.

Seeking actors for the following roles:

LOU (17-18. Any race. Girl. Character is questioning her relationship to gender). Has lived in south Georgia her whole life. Very normal small town southern girl-seeming. Bold. Headstrong. Friendly. Constantly feels like she’s drowning in her hair. Loves people and places. Searching for what it means to be the person she really is. A beauty queen who would rather climb trees. Knows she’s not straight, but has never told anyone.

ELLIS (17-18. Any race. Girl). New girl in town. She’s cool, or at least aesthetically cooler than Lou. A product of the various places she’s lived in. An avid reader and writer, but not in a “that girl is super smart and unapproachable” way. More introverted. An Individual. Funny in her own way. Is also used to having to say goodbye. Queer.

SHERRI (36-45. Any race. Woman.) A lady never reveals her age. Lou’s mom. Hardworking Southern mama. Married young. Doesn’t take shit from anyone. Has a compassionate heart. Loves to laugh, knows smoking is bad for her but does it anyway. Works multiple jobs, knows a lot of people. Straight.

Actors of all races, ethnicities, sexual identities, and ability are encouraged to audition. We also encourage that trans and gender-nonconforming actors audition. If you have further questions about the script or contents of the show, please contact [email protected].

Mariposa

About the show:

Mariposa, a hopeful Mexican-American, first generation college student flies back to her community in the South Side of Chicago for summer break. Disconnected from her inner child, Mariposa–with community friends–faces the traditional chains of alcoholism, toxic masculinity, gender roles, and patriarchal beliefs that threaten to bind her to repeat the same abusive, generational cycle that her immigrant parents carry.

Mariposa is a magical story that empowers first generation Latinas to unapologetically reimagine what their life could be like outside of the heteronormative beliefs that bound them to lose themselves.

Seeking actors for the following roles:

MARIPOSA (18-19): MeXicana, First-Generation and hella proud of it. Has broken the cycle over and over again . . . sometimes too well to be praised for it en el barrio. La escritora.

LIL MARIPOSA (Chiquita): MeXicana. A corazón made of iron. Mariposa’s younger self.

ESPERANZA (40s)/ GUADALUPE (18-19): Mexican Immigrant. Pobre señora likes living under the sombra of her husband. Mariposa’s Amá. Very traditional y con orgullo. / La santita. Educada, pero le gusta the comfort of being oblivious. Trying to learn how to love.

PAULINA (18-19): Half Mexican, half Latine. Bi-um, she don’t even know the word, pero es gay on da low. She’s the prima no one likes in la familia, but everyone can trust. Harsh, but really just wants to be treated with love. Stripurr.

FLOR (18-19): Afro-Latinx. This papichulo’s identity issues can be seen a mile away. Has a rough exterior, but it’s just a mask. Completely in love with Mariposa. Un breakdancer.

ERNESTO (17): MeXicano. Very “varón,” or at least that’s what his parents want. Plays the game to seek peace. Queer. Mariposa’s lil brother.

MOISÉS (40s)/ ÁNGEL (18-19): Mexican Immigrant. Extremadamente humano. An alcoholic ex-visionary. Mariposa’s Apá. / Guadalupe’s novio on da low. Is trying to find love and loyalty.

JAMOY (18-19): Half Latine/x/Half white. Type to absorb negative energy and fight it with love. Flor’s closest friend. A lover.
