First Date On The Brain by Claudia Emanuele
Emmerson- (female identifying) Emerson is an anxiety ridden actress who deep in her heart believes that everyone deserves to be loved - no matter how cliché it may sound. She consists on re-runs and new series on Netflix, ramen, and trying to ace her next audition. In this play she will be using she/her pronouns, but when the play is performed the gender can be switched if the director chooses to.
Emmerson’s Brain- (female identifying) EMERSON'S internal thoughts and feelings personified and put on blast. EMERSON'S BRAIN is critical, sassy, and loud mouthed, think of her as EMERSON’S anxiety devil on her shoulder. No one can see or hear the brain except for EMERSON and the audience.
Drew- (for the purposes of this production, there is interest in casting a female identifying performer) DREW is an awkward personal assistant who doesn't have a filter between his brain and his mouth. Wants things to go well, but isn't very hopeful. Take note of the fact that Drew has a higher pitched voice naturally and keeps pitching himself low to appear manlier. In this play he will be using he/him pronouns, but when the play is performed the gender can be switched if the director chooses to.
Drew’s Brain- (for the purposes of this production, there is interest in casting a female identifying performer) DREW'S internal thoughts and feelings personified and put on blast. DREW'S BRAIN is a pacing, sweating, blubbering, mess that second guesses everything. He’s very over-reactive and is essentially the brain who cried wolf. No one can see or hear the brain except for DREW and the audience.
