SELF TAPE SUGGESTIONS FOR YOUR AUDITION
• Framing your shot helps. Please make sure your phone/device is in landscape format and not portrait position.
• Make sure the lighting is sufficient. Non- incandescent, bright white lighting that includes some diffusion (non direct, soft) is best.
• The sound is important. Please make sure if using a reader that YOU are easily heard. An external mic (Lavalier) plugs into your device, is economical and sounds great.
• Your background is clean. Please be aware of what's behind you. A busy or dark background can distract the viewer/listener.
Keep the slate separate from the actual audition. Slates can be your headshot or your "live" introduction, whichever you prefer.

BREAKDOWN

PERICLES
Directed by Raphael Massie

Note from the Director: An epic, fantasy, adventure, re-imagined for the Zoom platform as a graphic novel come to life.

GOWER/DIANA: BIPOC, female presenting, age 30+. In the spirit of Gaea, mother of the earth. Matriarchal, versatile, fun, natural storyteller. Omni-present and also grounded, down to earth, and real. A combination of the physical and the spiritual. Your mom plus your favorite auntie rolled into one.

PERICLES: BIPOC, male presenting, 25-35. Heart-centered, passionate, honorable, adventurous. Perfectly imperfect. A little bit extra regardless of the situation.

ANTIGONE
Directed and Adapted by Gary English

Note from the Director: Antigone offers an intimate portrait of a young woman and her refusal to sacrifice her principles when ordered to meet questionable but legal demands of a state in crisis. Oppression often finds its way into public and private life through legal means. The Government of South Africa legalized Apartheid. Several states passed Jim Crow laws as accepted if abhorrent practice. The immoral use of civil law to oppress dates back centuries and in this play we confront perhaps the earliest example of legal state-sponsored repression, in this case of established cultural and religious practices. In our play, the conflict between two points of view regarding our rights and responsibilities as citizens takes on a contemporary look, as we navigate a world where issues of gender, race, violence and trauma thread through a political discussion regarding natural law, civil disobedience, and the importance and risks of public dissent.

CREON: Male, middle-aged 40 - 50, any race/ethnicity. Dignified, handsome, official, political, and capable of warmth as well as anger, or temper. Must have full range of emotions.

TIRESIAS: Male, age 40 - 60, any race/ethnicity. Wise, but possibly eccentric, or quirky. Actor needs strong character skills - not a leading man. May double as CHORUS.

EURYDICE: Woman, age 35 - 50, any race/ethnicity. A politician's wife, capable and strong. May also double as JOKASTA in scenes created or adapted from Oedipus the King. May double as CHORUS.
