Hedgepig Ensemble Theatre
Brooklyn, NY 11225
Founded in 2012, Hedgepig Ensemble Theatre reimagines the classics, creating a legacy of storytelling with gender equity at its core. With the launch of Expand the Canon in 2020, the company has earned international recognition for its work elevating the voices of women in the classics. With write ups in American Theatre, Playbill, and the New York Times, Hedgepig is poised to become a center for gender equity in the classics. Currently, the theatre produces 1-2 works per year on an AEA showcase, 1 annual festival, provides training throughout the year to its ensemble, and commissions a new play every other year.
Hedgepig Ensemble Theatre is seeking a part-time Managing Director to add to their burgeoning collaborative leadership team. In coordination with the Artistic Director and Director of Production, the Managing Director will lead and drive the direction of this 10-year old theatre company. Ranging from visionary to administrator, the Managing Director will help meet our strategic goals of tripling the budget over 5 years, moving toward longer production runs, commissioning multiple adaptations, and deepening our relationships with audiences and partners in Brooklyn. This role is local to New York City and approximately 10 hours per week, flexible to your schedule.
Cornerstones of our work are 1) our passionate ensemble of actors, 2) the relentless pursuit of joy, 3) equity in storytelling, and 4) Expand the Canon: a call to action for theatres to produce classic plays by women and underrepresented genders.
Ideal candidates are passionate about Hedgepig’s mission and excited to grow the company to the level it deserves. They are excellent communicators who value transparency. They are organized and detail oriented with experience in arts administration, fundraising, and non-profit management. Members of a larger organization wanting to take on a leadership role are attractive candidates and encouraged to apply.

A monthly stipend that increases each year in tandem with organizational success.
Hedgepig is committed to building a dynamic and diverse leadership team. Candidates from historically underrepresented groups in the classics are encouraged to apply. Statistically, women rarely apply for roles they do not feel "150% qualified for"--we recognize qualification and experience in their many forms. We encourage your application.
To apply, please submit information through the form below where you will upload a resume and answer 3 questions in lieu of a cover letter. We are accepting applications through October 10, 2021. We look to bring this role onto the team in January 2022.
