PART-TIME EDUCATION PROGRAMS ASSISTANT – MCC THEATER, New York, NY

 

MCC Theater is seeking a PART-TIME EDUCATION PROGRAMS ASSISTANT who will play a critical role in supporting both the Director of Public Engagement & Education and Manager of Education Programs in delivering high-quality arts education and public engagement programming by assisting with the management of day-to-day administrative tasks. 

 

Successful candidates will be mission-driven with a passion for the arts and serving New York City’s youth. They should be self-motivated and collaborative team members with outstanding project management and communication skills (verbal and written). Proficiency in computer skills, Excel, Outlook, and Microsoft Word is necessary.  

 

This role reports to the Director of Public Engagement & Education and is based in New York City.

Over more than 30 years, MCC Theater has established itself as a leading and award-winning off-Broadway theater company. MCC’s mission to provoke conversations that have never happened and otherwise never would is achieved across four program areas: annual productions of new plays and musicals; development of new work by artists with bold voices; deep and enriching public engagement initiatives; and intensive in-school and after-school programs that foster in high school students that desire to be heard and speak out.

 

In January 2019, MCC opened its new $20 million state-of the art theater complex, The Robert W. Wilson MCC Theater Space, which houses all productions, programming and administrative operations under one roof. Recent productions include School Girls; or The African Mean Girls Play, BLKS, All the Natalie Portmans, The Wrong Man, Alice by Heart, The Legend of Georgia McBride, and Hand to God, among many others.

 

COMPENSATION: This is a part-time, non-exempt hourly position with a rate of $20 per hour for approximately 15-20 hours per week.  

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:  

Supports department leadership in ensuring that MCC’s mission, values, guidelines, policies and procedures are implemented in the execution of our weekly Education lab programs as well as our Public Engagement events. The assistant will play a vital role in data collection, organization and document management for multiple projects over the course of the program year.  

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:  

·       Work with the education team to create and maintain comprehensive project documentation (e.g. meeting agendas and notes, or event-related documents).

·       Maintain expense and project timeline tracking, as well as the timely and current upkeep of the department’s general calendar.

·       Work with the Director of Finance to ensure accurate tracking of expenses against budget.

·       Support administration of programs: scheduling meeting, classroom and rehearsal spaces for workshops and labs, ordering of supplies, charting student attendance, data collection and document management.

Participate in the evaluation of projects, tracking, and reflecting on areas for improvement. When in-person programming resumes, this may include being onsite for in-person sessions as needed. 

·       Assist the Manager of Education Programs in scheduling regular planning meetings with partner schools and teaching artists on an ongoing basis and collection and submission of payroll documents.  

 

·       Participate in shaping the content of a project, such as selecting materials or lesson plans, with support from Education Department leadership.  

 

·       Research and liaison with arts and community organizations for virtual and in person tours (when appropriate), guest speaker selection and for our Partner Performances Program. Maintain performer database for project casting.  

 

·       Create content and posts for the department’s social media platforms. 

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND CHARACTERISTICS 

1.     Minimum requirements include vocational training or Associates Degree, apprenticeships or the equivalent experience in theater, office and /or education related field. 

2.     Ability to prioritize, work as part of a team, meet deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously.  

3.     Attention to detail, excellent writing and verbal communication, interpersonal, and strong organizational and Excel application skills. 

4.     Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and occasional weekends.
