Metal Shop Team Leader


The primary responsibility of the Shop Team Leader is to oversee and work with a fabrication team to execute the technical drawings to appropriate finish levels and to maintain the scheduling goals for their assigned projects. This position reports to the Director of Fabrication. Job responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Participate in Project Kickoff meetings, daily check-in meetings, and project post-mortem meetings as required by the Director of Fabrication.
  • Review all scope-of-work/ Finish Schedule documentation produced by Production Management pertaining to your projects.
  • Review all project milestones calendars produced by Production Management pertaining to your projects.

· Manage all on-site activities for all projects as assigned by the Director of Fabrication.

· Review forecast calendars of projects being estimated and flag schedule holes to senior management.

  • Identify shortcomings in project workflow and actively work with direct supervisor to optimize and improve this process. This includes identifying when OT or Layoffs are needed.
  • Personally manage assigned projects.
    • Maintain the electronic task list of your projects.
    • Communicate with Senior Staff, Technical Design, and Production Management as needed.
    • Communicate with Purchasing and Logistics to ensure/confirm orders as needed.
    • Keep projects on schedule while maintaining an efficient crew. This includes identifying when OT or layoffs are needed and coordinating those needs with the Director of Fabrication.
    • Review drawings and assign them to various team members.
    • Review shop drawings to ensure that all technical requirements have been met.
    • Review and fit up as needed, finished scenery before releasing to paint, carpentry, or to the client to ensure quality control.
    • Review load lists and hardware packs to ensure the correct items reach the end client as needed.
    • Go onsite as needed to install or supervise the installation of your projects.
    • Ensure team member timesheets are correct
    • Supervise and work with crew to ensure production deadlines are met

Required basic qualifications

Minimum of 5+ years of manufacturing experience including supervisory experience

· Ability to read technical drawings

· Strong understanding of scenic construction and basic automation

· Ability to effectively prioritize, execute, and problem solve in a high-pressure environment and work efficiently within given time constraints; highly organized

· Ability to communicate ideas clearly

· Self-motivated; team oriented and highly collaborative work style

· Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship, now or in the future.
