Roundabout Theatre Company, the nation’s largest not-for-profit theatre, seeks a personable and organized individual to join the company’s Artistic Department as the Literary Assistant. The position reports to the Literary Director and is an essential part of Roundabout’s Artistic and Literary work, supporting our pipeline of new work as well as creative development and programming activities.

This is some of what the Literary Assistant will do:

+ Assist in running internal readings, workshops, and residencies
+ Document all Literary submissions and maintain Roundabout’s literary database
+ Coordinate Roundabout’s team of Script Readers
+ Coordinate research process for The Refocus Project
+ Assist with the composition of all Literary correspondence, including rejection letters
+ Complete dramaturgical research for each production and write articles for Roundabout’s UPSTAGE Guides
+ Contribute to Roundabout’s programming, with particular focus on the New Play Initiative
+ Evaluate script submissions, readings, and productions for inclusion in Roundabout’s season
+ Attend external readings and productions in New York and regionally
+ Write notes/coverage with an eye to institutional aesthetics and needs
+ Read/provide research for The Refocus Project
+ Read/provide research for potential revivals of plays and musicals
+ Attend Roundabout’s play development activities, including but not limited to readings, workshops, and preview performances as needed
+ Provide support to the general activities of the Artistic Department including, but not limited to opening nights and artistic programs such as Roundabout Directors Group, Roundabout Directing Fellowship and Space Jam

This is some of what the Literary Assistant should bring:

+ Prior work experience in or academic study of the performing arts or related fields
+ Previous administrative and/or leadership experience
+ Knowledge of and passion for theatre
+ Strong communication skills, with an emphasis on the areas of writing, research, and organization
+ Keen attention to detail
+ The ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines
+ The ability to work some weekday nights and weekends for events (notice will always be provided in advance)
+ The ability to work remotely with internet access; laptop would be provided if needed
+ The ability to lift 50 lbs., as the job requires the transport of materials to and from training and work sites

This is a full-time position with all standard Roundabout benefits. The starting salary is $42,000 annually plus any overtime for hours worked over 40 in a workweek.
