DESCRIPTION

Short North Stage is seeking roles for Jesus Hopped the 'A' Train for this Spring, 2021. 

**NOTE: THIS IS REMOTE WORK. YOU WILL NOT HAVE TO TRAVEL FOR THIS PRODUCTION
THIS IS AN AEA SPT Tier 4 CONTRACT as well as NON-UNION** (EMC Points will be offered). 

ROLES: 

Angel Cruz; MALE 30-35
- Young, Hispanic, angry, lonely, frightened, and defensive
- Bike messenger who is incarcerated for shooting a cult leader while he was trying to save his friend from the cult. He is stubborn, emotional, and when we first meet him, he is trying to say a prayer he has forgotten to a God he no longer knows. 
- Ethnicity: Latino / Hispanic

Lucius Jenkins; MALE 40-49
- Christian, serial killer, smug, confident and charismatic, with a near manic upbeat energy.
- Lucius is a "celebrity" prisoner, an old-hat at the prison games as he has been incarcerated for a long time. In that time, he finds God. He now spends his time working out, chain smoking and "saving" Angel by talking to him about God, forgiveness, and taking responsibility for his crimes. He then shocks us with his own attitude towards his own brutal crimes. 
- Ethnicity: Black / African descent

Mary Jane Hanrahan; Female 30-39
- Public defender, smart and passionate, jaded and tired
- Mary Jane is a lawyer good enough to get defendents off who she knows are guilty. She meets Angel and walks out on him during their first meeting. A crisis of conscience and unresolved childhood connection brings her back to his defense and she becomes determined to free Angel even at the risk of her own career, but is persuaded by a crisis of conscience and childhood connection to defend him. 
- Righteous
Ethnicity: White / European descent

Valdez; Male 30-49
- Sadistic, cruel, violent, bad cop
- Valdez is a self-contained, brutally direct prison guard who believes in a world of black and white only. In that world, criminals should be punished harshly and held responsible for their crimes. In Riker's, he is God. 
- Ethnicity: Latino / Hispanic

Charlie D'Amico; Male 30-39
- Sympathetic, gentle, admiring, simple. Good cop. 
- A good-hearted, co-opted guard trying to get along with everybody, even as Valdez continually insults him. He is very sympathetic towards Lucius and this loses him his job. 
- Ethnicity: All ethnicities
