Seeking Director, annual Princeton Triangle Show

The Princeton Triangle Club, a nationally renowned undergraduate theatre troupe at Princeton University, is seeking a director for its annual original musical comedy production, to premiere in November 10-12, 2023 at McCarter Theatre in Princeton, New Jersey. The full-length musical comedy/revue is written and presented by Princeton undergraduates.

The Triangle Show will begin rehearsals on campus September 9, 2023. The show will also have a week-long national tour in January 2024 and a return engagement at McCarter at the end of May 2024 for Princeton reunions. Qualified candidates will have a strong background in, and passion for, musical comedy. Experience in collaborating and shaping original material, as well as experience with student performers and educational settings, is a plus. Ideal candidates will have at least five years of experience working professionally in the theater, significant experience directing large-scale musicals, and a commitment to centering EDI values in their creative process.

Timeline overview:

  • March 27: deadline for resume submissions.
  • March 28 - April 5 interviews via Zoom.
  • May 27: First Script Reading in Princeton.
  • Summer 2023: Script Development and pre-production (remote work).
  • September 9 – In person process begins in Princeton.
  • November 10-12 - Triangle Show premiere, McCarter Theatre, Princeton
  • January 2024 - National Tour (one week of pick up rehearsals/tech, in Princeton)
  • May 24-25, Princeton reunions performances, McCarter Theatre, Princeton (one week rehearsals prior)

Triangle will engage a professional choreographer and design team in consultation with the Director. The Music Director is club alumnus Peter Mills (The Hello Girls, The Honeymooners). Director/Choreographers are welcome to apply.

Princeton University is a 75-90 minute train ride on New Jersey Transit from New York City's Penn Station. Housing in Princeton will be provided during tech weeks, if needed.
