6th Fest
Brooklyn, NY
US
6th Fest is launching a reading group for like minds and scripts with conscience & impact--with occasional emphasis on climate. Come to a living room style environment (sometimes literally a living room) for friendship, playing around in an artistic sandbox, and discovering an abundance of plays and screenplays that gave a sh*t like Angels in America, A Chorus Line, Don't Look Up, YOURS!
COLD READS in GLOBAL WARMING will meet every Sunday in a studio near Lincoln Center or in living rooms with every 4th Sunday being a small, lowkey performance reading. The script will be different each time, taking suggestions from the group, whether existing pieces or original works from members. People will be invited from our list and slotted into a day that works for them. Roles will be drawn out of a hat. At performances, we will pass the hat for donations and split among readers and director.
Yesterday we started the group with It Can't Happen Here, the flagship production of the monolithic Federal Theater Project about authoritarianism rising in the States. It opened in 1936 in 21 theaters throughout 17 states on the same night just before a presidential election as a warning. Nazis held a rally in Madison Square Garden just a few years later.
The next reading:
Julius Caesar
Sunday Jan 26th, 1-4pm
Studio near Lincoln Center
*Shakespeare experience required.
*Late arrival or early departure throws off the vibe and can't be accomodated.
Readings will then pick back up March 9 and go weekly.

About Sixth Fest
We are a climate change production house and festival going into our fifth year. We last launched a comedy show, Apo-HA-HA-calypse, which featured viral climate rapper Hila the Earth and a piece from Jonathan Bines (Jimmy Kimmel, The Daily Show.) In December we had a reading of our new, original play The Assembly directed by Jess Slaght (The Public) and projections by Lydia Dean Pilcher (Darjeeling Limited, Cradle Will Rock.)
