Casting Call: Sister Act the Musical & Next to Normal
Presented by the Northern Lakes Arts Association (NLAA)
Location: Ely, Minnesota
Contract Dates: May 27 – August 3, 2025
Compensation: $300–$500 per week (based on role and experience)
Housing Provided + Free Gym Membership

The Northern Lakes Arts Association (NLAA) is seeking actors for its summer productions of Sister Act the Musical and Next to Normal. Performers will be part of a professional summer contract that blends high-quality theatrical work with the unique experience of living and performing in the scenic North Country.

Available Roles

Next to Normal (May 27 - June 30)

Gabe
Diana and Dan's son. A bright, enigmatic young man with charisma and a haunting presence. Gabe is energetic, persistent, and deeply intertwined in Diana’s emotional world. Requires excellent vocal control and strong acting ability.

• Gender: Male

• Age: 18–25

• Vocal Range: B2–C5 (Tenor with rock/pop sensibility)

Sister Act the Musical (June 23 - August 2)

TJ (Black man)
Curtis’s nephew and one of his henchmen. He’s street-smart but also hilariously clueless.

• Gender: Male

• Age: 16–30

• Vocal Range: Db3–Eb5

Michelle (BIPOC – Black woman or other BIPOC actor)
One of Deloris’s backup singers. Quick-witted, stylish, and always ready with a snarky remark.

• Gender: Female

• Age: 20–30

• Vocal Range: Bb3–F5

Curtis (Black man)
A smooth-talking, dangerous nightclub owner and Deloris’s boyfriend. He’s controlling, intimidating, and used to getting his way. Curtis will do anything to keep Deloris silent after she witnesses a crime, but his suave demeanor hides a truly menacing nature. Requires strong stage presence, vocal strength, and the ability to play both charm and threat.

• Gender: Male

• Age: 30–50

• Vocal Range: A2–Ab4 (Baritone/Tenor with soul and grit)

Auditions will be held in person and via video submissions.
