DESCRIPTION

Summer 2020 classes at Primary Stages ESPA are now open for enrollment. Our Summer semester will take place entirely online and is jam-packed with new and exciting classes, as well as our time-tested core curriculum:

Auditioning for Theater in an Online Platform

Instructor: David Caparelliotis (Casting Director, Caparelliotis Casting)

Due to the current limitations on in-person gatherings, auditioning for theater has pivoted in recent months, with auditions now being either self-taped or live via a virtual platform. Guided by casting director David Caparelliotis, you'll have an honest discussion about what auditioning for theater in this current world means and explore techniques to create the best audition possible.

Being On-Camera

Instructors: Amelia Campbell (Tony-nominated Actor, Coal Country at The Public, A Streetcar Named Desire on Broadway, Netflix's "Mindhunter", Leaves of Grass) and Anthony Arkin (Actor and Filmmaker, I'm Not Rappaport on Broadway, “The Americans”)

Be freed from the pressure to perform so you can focus your attention on learning and refining on-camera skills in a supportive and exciting environment.

On-Camera Auditioning for TV and Film

Instructors: Amelia Campbell (Tony-nominated Actor, Coal Country at The Public, A Streetcar Named Desire on Broadway, Netflix's "Mindhunter", Leaves of Grass) and Anthony Arkin (Actor and Filmmaker, I'm Not Rappaport on Broadway, “The Americans”)

This class is an intimate and intensive dive into the preparation and experience of both the live and self-taped on-camera auditions for film and television.

Hand-Written Monologues

Instructor: Erin Daley (Associate Artistic Director, Primary Stages) and guest playwrights

including Chisa Hutchinson, Elizabeth Irwin, Matt Minnicino, and more to be announced

In this 5-week class with Primary Stages Associate Artistic Director Erin Daley, she will pair you with a working playwright and you'll collaborate to develop and write a monologue hand-tailored to your interests and what you want to explore in your craft.

Analysis Through Action - A Prelude to Etudes

Instructor: Sara Holdren (Director, Twelfth Night at Two River, MIDSUMMER (which she co-adapted) at Tiltyard)

Explore the Russian theatrical pedagogy known as Analysis Through Action. Pioneered by Stanislavsky in his later life, ATA is roughly made up of two components: Reconnaissance of the Mind and Reconnaissance of the Body (the generative improvisatory work known as “etudes”).

Solo Performance

Instructor: Judy Gold (Actor/Co-Writer, The Judy Show at DR2 Theatre; Actor, The Taming of the Shrew at The Public)

Like Anna Deavere Smith, Nilaja Sun, John Leguizamo, Sharon Washington, Sarah Jones, Daniel Beaty, and other brave solo performers who have come before you, this class will guide you through the process of telling your personal story on stage.

Workshop: Producing 101

Producers from The Business of Broadway - Erica Rotstein (Director of Production, Broadway Across America; Producer, Hundred Days), Heather Sheilds (Producer, Broadway's Bandstand and A Christmas Carol), and Rachel Sussman (Producer, Broadway's What the Constitution Means to Me)

This workshop is a broad overview of Producing intended to demystify the process of creating a Broadway show - from the spark of creation through Opening Night - and shed light on the business framework within which artists and their work operate.

Workshop: Social Media for Artists

Instructor: Dana Lerner (Tony Award-Nominated Producer for Broadway's Indecent and Company, Founder and CEO of Red Pelican Creative)

Promote your work and establish your brand. Dana Lerner will walk you through the different social media platforms and how you can use them to enhance your own artistic work.
