THE ROLE

Broadway Licensing’s portfolio of brands seeks a full-time, Acquisitions Manager to manage its catalog of plays, playwrights and new initiatives. A passion and understanding of the theatrical landscape are a must.

Reporting to the Director of Acquisitions and in partnership with each corporate function, you’ll work to help drive the strategy behind play acquisitions and distribution. You will collaborate with the Director of Acquisitions on creating new play and new playwright initiatives as well as look to create methods of distribution that make these works more accessible to a wider audience. You will work with the team on harnessing, mining, assessing and cultivating empirical data out of the company’s systems to create and support development and distribution strategies. You will work directly with agents and authors through the submission and acquisition process. You’ll be a champion for the company, passionate about the work and a master of communication - both internal and external.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Help to determine the acquisitions strategy across the DPS, BL musical and PS divisions
  • Build data driven reports to create and support development and acquisition strategies
  • Work with Director of Acquisitions and CEO on advance offers
  • Help manage submissions database
  • Read and provide coverage for new play submissions & managing external/internal script readers
  • Assign coverage to various staff members and coordinate NYC show coverage schedule
  • If necessary, attend trade conferences and festivals
  • Work with Director of Acquisitions when making initial acquisitions offers to agents and playwrights
  • With Director, communicate final decision on acquisition to agents & authors
  • Track all advances on signature and contingent advances for all brands, when applicable
  • Initiate advance process with Finance & any necessary follow up
  • Assist in onboarding new titles, including providing information for system backend, working cross-departmentally to get final synopsis & casting breakdowns, secure necessary financial documentation for new titles & authors
  • Field inquiries on materials for titles/facilitating updates when needed
  • Ensure author, agent, assistant documentation is up to date
  • Send out author comp copies upon publication
  • Assist in organizing & tracking all third-party clearances
  • Work independently as well as with legal to execute representation agreements
  • Additional responsibilities as required

Requirements:

  • 3-5 years working in publications, playwriting, Dramaturgy, working with authors or creative talent, or some combination thereof
  • Passion for Arts and Culture
  • Background and understanding of play and musical licensing
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Superior attention to detail and time management skills
  • Must be able to work at a fast pace while managing multiple tasks and maintaining a professional attitude
  • Ability to initiate projects and see them through to completion
  • Mastery of Microsoft Office and Outlook, web browsing software
  • Creative problem-solving skills
  • Management experience preferred
