Stage and screen writer Steven Levenson's new musical Hulu show Up Here has announced Mae Whitman (Good Girls) as its female lead, according to Deadline.
The musical romantic comedy series will take place in 1999 New York City and follow Lindsay and Miguel as they fall in love and face obstacles that could keep them apart. Whitman will star as Lindsay, who has spent years trying to be the ideal good girl when she decides to move from Vermont to the big city.
Writing the series are Levenson (tick, tick...BOOM!, Dear Evan Hansen) and Danielle Sanchez-Witzel (The Carmichael Show) with songwriting duo Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez (Frozen, WandaVision) writing original songs. Hamilton's Thomas Kail is set to direct the series, which will reportedly begin production this summer in New York City.
20th Television is the studio behind the eight-episode straight-to-series order which is being produced with Kail's Old 320 Sycamore Productions. Levenson, Sanchez-Witzel, Anderson-Lopez, Lopez, and Kail are all serving as executive producers alongside Jennifer Todd.
