The cast is growing! Sharon D. Clarke will be joining the Matthew López-written-and-directed adaptation of Casey McQuiston’s LGBT+ romance novel Red, White, and Royal Blue for Prime Video.

Additional new cast members include Thomas Flynn and Malcolm Atobrah, who will be joining the previously announced Nicholas Galitzine (Cinderella), Taylor Zakhar Perez (The Kissing Booth 2), Uma Thurman, Emmy nominee Clifton Collins Jr. (Westworld), SAG winner Stephen Fry (The Dropout), Sarah Shahi (Sex/Life), Rachel Hilson (Winning Time), Ellie Bamber (The Serpent), Aneesh Sheth (A Kid Like Jake), Polo Morin (Who Killed Sara?), Ahmed Elhaj (Dangerous Liaisons), and Akshay Khanna (Polite Society).

The enemies-to-lovers story follows Alex Claremont-Diaz, who is promptly cast as the American equivalent of a young royal following his mother's election as president. His public image falls under scrutiny when his long-running feud with his royal counterpart across the pond catches wind of the tabloids. The two agree to enter a fake, "Instagrammable" relationship, which later turns into something more meaningful.

Clarke is set to star in the upcoming Broadway revival of Death of a Salesman, reprising her Olivier-winning performance from the production's West Ends run, and was nominated for a Tony Award for her performance in the title role of Caroline, or Change last season. The Olivier winner's screen performances include Elton John biopic RocketmanEastEnders, Doctor Who, and Snowtrail.

Tony winner López, also serving as an executive producer, will be making his directorial debut with the movie. His play The Inheritance—also rooted in the LGBTQIA+ experience—scored four Tony Awards, including Best Play, along with awards for director Stephen Daldry and two performers: Andrew Burnap and Lois Smith.

Producers for the film include Berlanti/Schechter Films’ Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter, with Michael McGrath joining López and author McQuiston as an executive producer.
