Industry readings of the new musical The City of Ember, based on the novel by Jeanne DuPrau, will be presented January 27 at 2 PM and 6 PM at Sunlight Studios in Manhattan.
Directed by co-creator S. Dylan Zwickel, the cast will feature Samantha Williams (Pirates of Penzance), Josh Strobl (The Outsiders), Sydney Kane (The Moss Maidens), David Alan Marshall, Deborah Tranelli (Hereafter), Kelvin Moon Loh (Beetlejuice), Conor McShane (The Worst Person You Know Does a Solo Show), Marina Kondo (KPOP), Teresa Attridge (The Moss Maidens), and Abe Mitchell.
With a book by Zwickel, music by Step Pażernov, and lyrics by Zwickel and Pażernov, the new musical concerns a city whose generator is failing, and everyone seems to be in denial about the city's imminent demise—except two teenagers, hot-headed Doon and dreamer Lina.
Produced by Don’t Tell Your Father Productions, the readings will also have musical direction by Sean Eads, stage management by Kyra Bowie, and assistant stage management by Alisa Rabin.
