Songbook Sundays, the concert series created and hosted by Deborah Grace Winer to celebrate the American Songbook, will continue at Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Dizzy’s Club June 1.
The 5 PM and 7:30 PM concerts, entitled Fats and The Duke, will spotlight two legends: Fats Waller and Duke Ellington. Interpreting their work will be Grammy nominee Karrin Allyson, Allison Blackwell, and Benny Benack III.
Music director Richard Cummings will lead a band that includes Kenny Davis on bass, Damon DueWhite on drums, Ed Jackson on alto saxophone, and Benny Benack III on trumpet.
Attendees can expect to hear such songs as "Honeysuckle Rose," "Sophisticated Lady," "Don’t Get Around Much Anymore," "I Ain’t Got Nothin’ But the Blues," "Mean to Me," and more.
Songbook Sundays is currently in its fourth year, after premiering in spring 2022 with Got Gershwin.
