Mary Poppins Returns, Disney's movie-musical sequel to the 1964 classic, is due in theatres December 19.
Hamilton writer-star and Tony winner Lin-Manuel Miranda co-stars as Jack, an "optimistic streetlamp lighter," opposite Emily Blunt (Into the Woods) in the title role. Ben Whishaw (The Crucible on Broadway) plays grown-up Michael Banks, with Emily Mortimer (Hugo) as his sister Jane. Also making cameos in the film are Angela Lansbury, Meryl Streep, and original Mary Poppins star Dick Van Dyke.
Directed by Rob Marshall (Into the Woods, Chicago), the film includes an all-new score by Tony Award-winning Hairspray songwriters Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman.
Both Miranda and Blunt received Golden Globe nominations for their performances in the film, which is also nominated for Best Motion Picture — Musical or Comedy, and Best Original Score for Marc Shaiman.
