Davis McCallum, who directed Hunter’s The Whale and The Few Off-Broadway, will helm the double-bill, titled Lewiston & Clarkston, which will begin this fall. The 90-minute plays premiered in separate productions at Dallas Theater Center in 2015 (Clarkston), and Long Wharf Theatre in 2016 (Lewiston). The Off-Broadway run marks the first time they will be presented together.

In spring 2019, Rattlestick will stage the world premiere of Lockdown by Cori Thomas, inspired by the playwright’s own experience working with inmates in San Quenton Prison. Kent Gash will direct.

“These plays are wrestling with what it means to be American today,” Rattlestick Artistic Director Daniella Topol said in a statement. “In what ways has the American Dream left certain individuals behind? How do we overcome our emotional, physical and spiritual isolation? How do we relate to our families and how do we make our own communities? Samuel D. Hunter and Cori Thomas are honest, poignant, funny and captivating writers telling essential and relevant stories.”

The season will also include the annual F*#cking Good Plays Festival, as well as Rattlestick's unplugged concert series New Songs Now, and Middle Voice, a work-in-progress showing from the theatre’s apprentice company.
