Ken Urban’s Vapor Trail has joined the line-up of works to be released during season two of Playwrights Horizons’ anthological fiction podcast Soundstage.
Starring Maulik Pancholy and April Matthis under the direction of Knud Adams, Vapor Trail will be released on Soundstage September 20, having previously premiered at the 2022 Tribeca Festival’s Audio Storytelling series. The work tells the story of two strangers who find a connection after a chance meeting at a farmers market, leading to an evening they will never forget.
“Playwrights Horizons’ Lighthouse Series and Soundstage podcast provide playwrights and theatre-makers with opportunities to reach toward new horizons, applying their craft to the creation of live experiences that take place outside the physical walls of our building,” said Playwrights Horizons Artistic Director Adam Greenfield in a statement.
The Off-Broadway theatre is also working with play development company The Parsnip Ship to present The Detour Series’ two commissioned and site-specific audio shows September 1-25 in Hell’s Kitchen. The accessible and free shows are conducted via each audience member’s mobile device.
West Side Quest by Opalanietet is directed by Kathleen Capdesuñer in an exploration of dwindling resources in Hell’s Kitchen and the transformation of New York City into a dystopia, with stars Victor Almanzar, Emma Ramos, and Albert Ybarra. Christin Eve Cato’s The Mayor Of Hell’s Kitchen Presents: A Time Traveling Journey Through NYC’s Wild West goes through the history of Hell’s Kitchen via time-traveling visit from the 8th Dimension. Alex Hernandez, John Keating, and Nidra Sous la Terre are featured in the cast.
Both shows launch September 1, and their creative team includes sound designer Germán Martinez, dramaturgs Al Parker and Iyvon E., technical director Business Lunch Productions, and sound engineers Ricky Berotti and Luke DiCola. The works were recorded at Red Convertible Recording.
