The original Broadway production of Pulitzer Prize winner Paula Vogel’s Indecent, featuring members of the original Broadway cast, officially opens June 9 at the Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles. The Center Theatre Group production will run through July 9.

Rebecca Taichman, who earned a Tony Award for the production, returns to helm Indecent, which played Boston’s Huntington Theatre Company earlier this spring.

The CTG staging features members of the original Broadway cast, including Mimi Lieber, Steven Rattazzi, Richard Topol, and Adina Verson. They are joined by new cast members Tony nominee Harry Groener, Tony nominee Elizabeth A. Davis, and Joby Earle. Musicians include Matt Darriau, Lisa Gutkin, and Patrick Farrell.

Inspired by the true events surrounding the controversial 1923 Broadway debut of Sholem Asch’s The God of Vengeance—a play seen by some as a seminal work of Jewish culture, and by others as an act of traitorous libel—Indecent charts the history of an incendiary drama and the path of the artists who risked their careers and lives to perform it.
