News New Productions of The Dresser and The Miser to Be Staged in West End Both will be directed by Sean Foley.

Sean Foley is to direct new productions of Ronald Harwood's 1980 play The Dresser, starring Ken Stott and Reece Shearsmith as an aging actor-manager and his long-suffering dresser, respectively, and Griff Rhys Jones in the title role of Molière's The Miser, newly adapted by Foley and Phil Porter.

The Dresser will begin performances at the Duke of York's Theatre October 5 prior to an official opening October 12, following performances in Richmond, Brighton and Cheltenham beforehand.

The Miser will begin performances at the Garrick Theatre March 1, 2017, prior to an official opening March 13, following performances in Bath and Richmond beforehand.

Foley, co-founder of The Right Size, for whom he co-starred and co-wrote The Play What I Wrote in the West End and on Broadway, was most recently represented in the West End as director of The Painkiller for the Branagh Company at the Garrick Theatre.

Stott's many stage credits include the original London production of Art, Broken Glass (for which he won the Olivier Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role) and A View from the Bridge. His film credits include The Hobbit trilogy, Charlie Wilson's War, The Chronicles Of Narnia, The Boxer, Shallow Grave, The Debt Collector and Plunkett and Maclean.

Shearsmith has been seen in the West End in Absent Friends, Betty Blue Eyes, Ghost Stories and The Producers. He is best known as an original member of TV's The League of Gentlemen, and Pychoville that he co-wrote.

Jones has been seen in the West End in Oliver!, Charley's Aunt and An Absolute Turkey. His TV series include Not the Nine O'Clock News, Alas Smith and Jones, The World According to Smith and Jones, Smith and Jones in Small Doses and Smith and Jones, all with the late Mel Smith.

The Dresser is co-produced by Mark Goucher, who also produced Jeeves and Wooster in Perfect Nonsense, currently optioned for a Broadway season, with Mark Rubinstein Ltd. and Jonathan Church Productions in the first production for Church's new company after leaving Chichester Festival Theatre.

The Miser will be produced with Mark Rubinstein Ltd.
