Hugo Cabret's leap to the stage might just be a few clock ticks away. Brian Selznick, author of the 2007 children's novel The Invention of Hugo Cabret, is at work on the libretto for a potential musical adaptation. According to Variety, the show is eyeing a 2021 premiere in London's West End with Tim Headington and Theresa Steele Page's newly formed Ley Line Entertainment producing.

The illustration-driven historical fiction novel follows a young orphan and clock keeper in Paris who sets off on a fantastical adventure to protect a treasured automation and secretive notebook his father left behind. The book also inspired a 2011 film adaptation from Martin Scorsese, adapted for the screen by Tony winner John Logan.

Ley Line is also behind the previously reported Max Martin musical, which will incorporate songs from the producer's catalog of pop hits (written for such artists as Britney Spears, Adele, Katy Perry, Taylor Swift, and Justin Timberlake). The musical is eyeing a summer 2019 out-of-town run before a fall transfer to the West End.
