Readings and Workshops MTC's Upcoming Virtual Offerings Include Works by Camille A. Brown, Qui Nguyen, More Patricia Clarkson, John Slattery, and Bradley Whitford will also reunite for a reading of Richard Greenberg’s Three Days of Rain.

Manhattan Theatre Club’s virtual theatre offerings—dubbed MTC Virtual Stage 2021—will continue in February with a new series entitled Snapshots that features 10-minute works created exclusively for the digital format.

Inspired by the current moment in theatre and the world, new Snapshots will premiere monthly. Among the playwrights featured in the coming months are Alexis Scheer, Liza Birkenmeier, and Qui Nguyen as well as a project from director and choreographer Camille A. Brown.

Ritual: A spell for healing and transformation
Written by Alexis Scheer
Directed by Scheer and Gabrielle Carrubba
Videographry by Carrubba
Featuring Carrubba, Octavia Chavez-Richmond, Shirley Chen, Ari Groover, and Samantha Williams
Premiering February 1-6
A digital manifestation of magic and intention: Starting on February 1, experience a five-day journey and guide to create your own personal spell for healing and transformation that culminates in a collective gathering and casting of energy at precisely 2:06 PM on February 6.

Please Welcome Our Guest: A personality test/performance

Directed by Trish Harnetiaux
Birkenmeier, a playwright without a personality, gives you a personality assessment. With the help of a surprise guest star and an experimental survey, maybe she’ll guide you toward a better understanding of your unique self.

Camille A. Brown: A glimpse behind the curtain
Conceived and created by Camille A. Brown
Featuring Juel D. Lane with original music by Daryl Waters
An intimate look inside the mind and creative process of director and choreographer Brown as she prepares for her re-envisioned production of Ain’t Misbehavin’ (an upcoming co-production between Barrington Stage Company and Westport Country Playhouse).

Untitled Vampire Cowboys Project: An original treat for pop culture nerds everywhere

Vampire Cowboys takes viewers on a rollicking ride through the life of the notorious Julie D’Aubigny—the queer, 17th century, opera-singing adventurer from their hit show, Revenge Song.

Also beginning in February, MTC will celebrate past productions in a Curtain Call Series. Premiere dates for the virtual readings will be announced soon. The lineup includes the following plays, spanning a 30 year period:

The Past Is the Past

Directed by Oz Scott
Originally produced in MTC’s 1974-1975 season
A new cast will explore this early work by Wesley.

Original stars Patricia Clarkson, John Slattery, and Bradley Whitford will reunite for a fresh look at Greenberg’s Pulitzer Prize-nominated play.

Woodard returns to MTC to perform her inspiring portrait of a young woman's coming of age and her realization that some of life's most difficult times can also be the most fulfilling.

Beauty of the Father
Written by Nilo Cruz
Directed by Michael Greif
Originally produced in MTC’s 2005-2006 season
Pulitzer Prize winner Cruz’ passionate and lyrical love triangle explores the conflict between love and sacrifice.

The virtual offerings also include Student Monologue Challenge: Wave 3, which allows high school students to express what is on their minds and in their hearts while theatres are closed and schools are remote; and The Show Goes On, a monthly series pairing production footage from an MTC staging with new stories and commentary from original cast members.
