Broadway alum Michael Genet will return to the stage, joining the cast of The Prom beginning June 28. He replaces Michael Potts in the role of Mr. Hawkins. Potts was recently announced to star in Denzel Washington's Netflix adaptation of Ma Rainey's Black Bottom.

As previously reported, the musical comedy, by Chad Beguelin, Bob Martin, and Matthew Sklar, will play its final performance at the Longacre Theatre August 11 after 23 previews and 310 regular performances.

Genet last appeared on Broadway earlier this year in Choir Boy; his additional credits include Fences, Lestat, Wicked, Hamlet, and A Few Good Men.

The cast also includes Tony winner Beth Leavel, Caitlin Kinnunen, and Brooks Ashmanskas—each Tony-nominated for their performances—as well as Christopher Sieber, Isabelle McCalla, Angie Schworer, Josh Lamon, and Courtenay Collins. All reprise their performances after the musical's 2016 Atlanta world premiere. Also set to join the cast this summer are Brittany Conigatti and Nick Eibler, appearing in the ensemble beginning July 16.

The Prom tells the story of an Indiana high schooler barred from bringing her girlfriend to the prom—and the group of eccentric Broadway folk who infiltrate the town in an earnest, misguided attempt to fight the injustice. A national tour, Netflix adaptation and Young Adult novel are in the works.
