Per Variety, Tony nominee Julia Lester and Wicked film star Marissa Bode will star in a series of short films for the Visionary Fellowship filmmakers of the Inevitable Foundation.

The year-long program offers funding, community, and guidance to disabled filmmakers as they create a short film. The inaugural cohort—including Zayre Ferrer, Monica Lucas, Filipe Coutinho, Alys Murray and Katherine Craft—have each received $55,000 in funding for their short film, with additional access to an experienced crew, health insurance, marketing support, and financial aid for access and travel.

Bode will star in Katherine Craft’s film The Hog Queen. Set in a small-town Texas gay bar, all hell breaks loose during its Hog Fest Drag Show. The film will also feature Garrett Coffey, Aaron Leddick, Christian Zamudio, and Skyler Davenport.

Lester will star in Alys Murray’s Beware Cockblocking Ghosts, which follows a teenage girl on the run from the demonic ghost of her dead best friend. The film will also star Reed Horstmann and Ruby Jay.

Casting is by Danielle Pretsfelder Demchick and Elizabeth Hay. The Visionary Fellowship is exclusively supported through Netflix’s Fund for Creative Equity, which trains aspiring filmmakers for jobs on Netflix productions. The short films will be screened at an industry event later this year.
