Trainspotting Live, an immersive stage adaptation of Irvine Welsh’s critically acclaimed novel and the cult Danny Boyle film, is set to make its Off-Broadway debut in a custom-built performance space at Roy Arias Stages in New York City. The story follows the highs, lows, and outright chaos of the drug scene in Edinburgh in the late 1980s.

Joining previously announced original cast member Greg Esplin, who plays Tommy and who also co-directs, will be Liam Akpan as Sick Boy, Andrew Barrett as Renton, Tom Chandler as Begbie, Lauren Downie as June, Greg Esplin as Tommy, Pia Hagan as Allison, and Oliver Sublet as Mother Superior.

Adapted by Harry Gibson, the production captures the passion and controversy of Trainspotting while inviting the audience to be a part of the action. Performances will begin July 5 ahead of a July 15 opening.

Trainspotting was published in 1993 and adapted into a critically acclaimed, Oscar-nominated film by Boyle in 1996.

Trainspotting Live is directed by Adam Spreadbury-Maher, the artistic director of King’s Head Theatre in London, in collaboration with Esplin.

“Trainspotting Live requires a very specific kind of performer—they must be totally fearless and daring in every way imaginable,” said producer Scott Griffin. “After a very competitive casting round from over 1,000 performers, we are thrilled to announce a cast of unique talents who we know will bring just the right amount of grit, humor, and heart to Mark Renton and friends.”

The show is produced Off-Broadway by Brass Jar Productions (Drunk Shakespeare) and Olivier Award-winning producer James Seabright. Performances will be at 777 8th Avenue, also home to Drunk Shakespeare. Tickets are now on sale at TrainspottingNYC.com.
