GLAAD—the world’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer media advocacy organization—has announced the nominees of the 36th GLAAD Media Awards. The nominees include 303 works and individuals across 33 categories across film, television, theatre, journalism, and more—as well as a number of honorees. Among them is the Wicked film (nominated for Outstanding Film), the Outstanding Broadway Production category, and a special recognition for Drag: The Musical.
The 2025 GLAAD Media Awards will take place in Los Angeles March 27.
In the category of Outstanding Broadway Production, the nominees include Cult of Love by Leslye Headland, Illinoise (book by Justin Peck and Jackie Sibblies Drury, music and lyrics by Sufjan Stevens), Lempicka by Carson Kreitzer and Matt Gold, Mother Play by Paula Vogel, and Oh, Mary! by Cole Escola. Additionally, the 77th Tony Awards was nominated for Outstanding Variety or Talk Show Episode.
A number of Broadway artists were also recognized in music categories. Current Cabaret star Adam Lambert and future Cabaret star Orville Peck were nominated in the Outstanding Music Artist category. Michaela Jaé was nominated for Outstanding Breakthrough Music Artist.
Notably, Drag: The Musical was given a special recognition for its "immeasurable impact and contributions to LGBTQ acceptance and visibility."
“The GLAAD Media Awards were created nearly four decades ago to champion LGBTQ stories amid a deeply hostile and unsafe time for our community," said GLAAD President & CEO Sarah Kate Ellis in a statement. "Today, this mission holds true and ever-more important as attacks against LGBTQ people are not only growing, but finding new avenues. Whether it’s rampant misinformation or defamation of transgender people, LGBTQ youth, or the shocking corporate rollback of policies and programs that keep LGBTQ people seen and safe in a workforce, what will always prevail is our truth and talent. This year’s nominees for the 36th GLAAD Media Awards represent the best of our vibrant community, spanning across all media, genres and mediums, and send a loud and global message to industry leaders that our stories are not only popular and entertaining, but necessary and culture-changing.”
Since 1990, the GLAAD Media Awards have grown to be the most visible annual LGBTQIA+ awards show in the world. Nominees for the 36th Annual GLAAD Media Awards reflect work published, released, or broadcast between January 1 and December 31, 2024.
