“As the children of immigrants, we have always existed in a world where taking extra steps was required," said Quiroz-Vázquez and Tsivicos in a joint statement. "When the pandemic came, we did what our parents and grandparents taught us to do, keep working. We gave the world a small offering in a community garden, inspired by our ancestors and filled with music, magic, healing, and joy. The seed we planted in that garden grew into a full run at The Bushwick Starr and then a huge one day celebration at Lincoln Center, and we are so grateful for everyone who nurtured that growth along the way. QUINCE is so culturally specific and yet so universal, proving once and for all that immigrant art is American art.”

Originally workshopped as part of the TEAM’s Petri Projects, Quiroz-Vázquez and Tsivicos further developed Quince through a residency at The SHED before being mounted at the People’s Garden in 2020. Its current production at The Bushwick Starr is presented by One Whale’s Talein association with ¡OYE! Group.

After its run at Bushwick Starr, Quiroz-Vázquez and Tsivicos will present QUINCE en la Plaza July 17 at 5 PM in the Hearst Plaza at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts as part of its Summer for the City programming. The event will feature live music, dance performances, food, and more, followed by a silent disco at 9 PM at The Oasis with DJ Mickey Pérez.
