Grosses Broadway Grosses Analysis: Take Me Out Hits a Home Run in Final Week on Broadway

The Richard Greenberg revival closed things out with the highest-grossing week of both of the production's recent Broadway runs.

Broadway's Take Me Out closed out the ninth inning with a big win, bringing in the highest weekly box office of either the production's original or encore runs at $731,708.06. The Richard Greenberg play gave its final performance February 5 with the production's original stars Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Jesse Williams, and Brandon J. Dirden leading the company. The production's original revival run, which played March 10–June 11, 2022, won Tony Awards for Best Revival of a Play and Best Featured Actor in a Play (for Ferguson).

Elsewhere, it was business as usual on the Main Stem. Unfortunately, for the week ending February 5, that means disappointing cumulative grosses of just $23.5 million. Though that figure represents a continued fall from the week previous, there was one less show running. Combined with the continuing winter slump, the numbers are not surprising. A multitude of productions preparing to begin previews in the coming week will likely bring rosier outcomes quickly.

Unsurprisingly, The Phantom of the Opera continues to dominate the boards, now consistently ranking as the highest-grossing show. Audiences are clamoring to catch one final performance before the long-running West End transport ends its historic 35-year run in April. The Andrew Lloyd Webber musical brought in $2.6 million last week, bringing it within striking distance of its New Year's high of $2.8 million. Unlike some top grossers, the show is also regularly one of the best attended on Broadway, with 12,792 theatregoers seeing a performance at the Majestic last week. That audience count was the third highest last week, with the number one and two spots going to usual suspects Wicked and Aladdin, both playing in theatres with among Broadway's highest number of seats.

Despite the winter slump, Broadway continues to be well attended overall. Seventeen of the 22 currently running shows played to 90% or higher-filled houses. The lowest capacity percentage last week went to Some Like It Hot, which still had a more than respectable 72% of seats filled at the Shubert.
