Readings and Workshops Amas Musical Theatre Lab to Host Industry Reading of New Musical Settle Down

Written by Gabe Caruso and Sangwoo 'Simon' Lee, the work is about the concept of family and the American foster care system.

Settle Down

Amas Musical Theatre and The Amas Lab will present a private industry reading of Settle Down April 11 at 4 PM, and April 12 at 2 PM and 6 PM at Ripley-Grier Studios.

The musical follows 17-year-old Mark as he ages out of the American foster care system and moves in with his best friend, Lily, and her father, John. Mark learns to adjust to family life in this hip hop musical which explores the idea of family and what binds it together. Settle Down features a book and lyrics by Gabe Caruso and music by Sangwoo 'Simon' Lee.

Directing will be Christopher Scott, and Andrew Shield will provide musical direction. Alyssa Gomez, Lauren Hooper, Danish Farooqui, and Curtis Wiley will comprise the cast. Benjamin Vigil will serve as production stage manager.

The show won the Eric H. Weinberger Emerging Librettist Award. The industry reading is part of the ongoing Amas Musical Theatre Lab development series. The presentations, which support writers, lyricists, and composers through public readings of their new musicals, are made possible through the support of a number of companies, organizations, and government departments.
