Les MiserablesAlfie Boe, most recently seen on Broadway in Finding Neverland, will join Pete Townshend and Billy Idol for a series of performances of The Who's Classic Quadrophenia in September in the U.S.

The Who's Townshend has blended his album Quadrophenia with orchestral accompaniment. Following an acclaimed world premiere at London's Royal Albert Hall, the musical evening will now be performed in Massachusetts, New York, and California.

Concert dates follow:

September 2 in Lenox, Massachusetts, at Tanglewood
September 9 in New York, New York, at Metropolitan Opera House
September 10 in New York, New York, at Metropolitan Opera House
September 16 in Los Angeles, California, at The Greek Theatre

The September 2 performance in Lenox will feature the Boston Pops Orchestra and conductor Keith Lockhart. The New York and Los Angeles performances will be led by conductor Robert Ziegler, and the Los Angeles show will support Teen Cancer America with a portion of proceeds going to the charity.

“I’m thrilled to be bringing Classic Quadrophenia stateside through the month of September,” Townshend said in a statement. “Melding the contrasting sounds of Quadrophenia with a symphony has been a really unique and powerful way to reach a wide audience of classical and pop music lovers alike. I couldn’t be more excited to see it continue in the U.S.”

The Who’s rock opera Quadrophenia was originally released as a double album in 1973. The album, later turned into a feature film and theatrical production, follows an angst-ridden young man in London who creates a new life for himself as a member of the Mods.

The Who's Tommy, which was based on the concept album Tommy by the British rock group The Who—about an alienated, abused child who, despite having lost his sight, speech, and hearing at an early age, becomes a pinball wizard and youth culture icon—was adapted by the Who's Townshend and director Des McAnuff into a stage musical. It ran for more than two years on Broadway and won Tonys for McAnuff's direction and Townshend's score, in a tie with John Kander and Fred Ebb's Kiss of the Spider Woman.
