The Lotus Lee drama studio is an innovative international drama production company that specializes in stage drama planning, production, investment, integrated marketing, and technological innovation. Our first 3D Sci-fi stage drama “The Three-body Problem”, which comes from the original and only book in Asia that has been given Hugo Award for Best Novel (along with such books as Harry Potter, Game of Throne) , has toured around 60~100 performances across over 20 cities in China and won huge success in the market. The sequel to “The Three-body Problem” drama, which is slated to premiere in 2018, is now under production and will collaborate with prestigious Tony Awards winning designers and world famous visual effects companies.
The newly-opened New York office is located in the heart of Chelsea. It has two major missions: The first is to enhance the Sino-US cultural exchange by investing and introducing foreign drama and performances to Chinese market; The 2nd is to revolutionize the theatre experiences by experimenting and integrating new technologies to the stage, such as 3D mapping, Hologram and VR\AR.
The Role and Learning Opportunities
The candidate will join a fast-growing startup and play a crucial role in facilitating the drama production process, and building relationships with Broadway artists and producers' community. The intern will advance their knowledge of the qualifications and duties needed to evaluate theatre productions and support the work of play development within a theatre production company. In addition, the theatre production intern will gain an understanding of the skills and knowledge needed for success in the workplace and an introduction into the global theatre landscape.
Duties and Responsibilities
Assists with company’s international project communication process.
Reviews and evaluates productions, which includes reviewing written materials.
Collects, organizes and updates content for the production on the company’s website.
Identifies and then conducts outreach with theatre producers, directors, and designers via phone and email.
Compose weekly news and journal.
Creates presentation materials as directed.
Manages the company’s social media accounts weekly updates.
Supports a range of administrative duties as directed.
Other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s or working towards a Master’s degree in theatre, art management, or related field, or equivalent practical experience in theatre production and management.
Experience working in publicity and social media is a plus.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Have a passion for theatre and have an interest in theatre production and administration.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google products.
Experience with data entry and running reports within a database preferred.
Diligent and focused, proactive and detail-oriented team player.
Flexible, energetic and eager to join an amazing arts organization.
The employee should have legal authorization to work in the United States.
This internship works an average of 20 hours per week and must be able to commit to two days per week Monday to Friday.
