The Flea Theater Seeks Actors of Middle Eastern Descent for New Programming for Young Audiences
The Flea Theater seeks non-equity actors of Middle-Eastern descent over the age of 21 to perform a variety of roles in FATIMA AND HER PIGEON by Noelle Ghoussaini and directed by Kate Moore Heaney. FATIMA AND HER PIGEON is one of the five serialized short plays that will launch The Flea's new initiative, CEREALS-- a series of ethnically and culturally specific interpretations of folk tales written in 10 minute episodes for audiences ages 5-10.
Note that being cast in FATIMA AND HER PIGEON means joining The Flea Theater's resident volunteer acting company, The Bats. The Bats are a core group of artists who both perform in The Flea's productions and support the company through volunteering in all aspects of making theater.
During the present-day Syrian civil war, ten-year-old Fatima flees Syria with her family and beloved pigeon, Jawahar. When Jawahar is separated from Fatima at a checkpoint, Fatima secretly begins a journey back to her home city of Damascus in order to find the bird. As Fatima encounters the ancient gods of her land and journeys deeper into the stories of her people, she discovers the importance of carrying home with her.
*Note actors need not be ages specified.
