DESCRIPTION

The Allen Lee Hughes Fellowship and Internship program:

The goal of Arena Stage's fellowship and internship program is to cultivate the next generation of theater professionals by providing the highest standard of training through immersion in the art and business of producing theater. Successful candidates for both programs are highly motivated individuals who have arts-related experience and training, as well as a passion for the exploration of the human condition through the dramatic forms.

  • The Allen Lee Hughes Fellowship & Internship Program offers personalized training and in-depth, hands-on experience with seasoned professionals in artistic and technical production, arts administration, arts education, human resources/finance and community outreach. All fellowship and internship programs are also supplemented with the following:

    Mentorship from a senior staff member
  • Professional development workshops
  • Monthly meetings with directors, designers and senior staff administrators who provide insight into the overall management of the theater


Arena Stage provides a weekly stipend for all internships and fellowships. We are unable to provide housing.

Summer Internship:

Summer internships are appropriate for college students, graduate students, recent graduates, or career changers. Summer internships vary depending on the season, but positions are generally available in the following departments: Casting, Community Engagement, Development, Human Resources/Finance and Production. The casting summer internship is a volunteer position.

Dates: Summer internships are full-time and require an 8-12 week commitment between June and August

Compensation: Weekly stipend of $200.00 distributed the last Thursday of every month worked

Seasonal Fellowship:

designed for recent graduates (undergraduate or graduate) and career changers interested in pursuing a career in the professional theater. Fellowship positions vary depending on the season, but season positions are generally available in the following areas: Arts Administration, Artistic Development, Communications, Community Engagement, Development, Human Resources/Finance and Technical Production.
