The Alliance of Resident Theatres/New York (A.R.T./New York), a leading service and advocacy organization for New York City’s more than 400 nonprofit theatres, seeks a Senior Manager of Institutional Giving to play a critical role in cultivating and growing foundation, corporate, and government giving, as A.R.T./New York enters an exciting phase of its organizational development. A.R.T./New York’s 400 member theatre companies are the heart of the organization. A.R.T./New York provides subsidized office and rehearsal space at Spaces@520 in midtown Manhattan and South Oxford Space in Fort Greene, Brooklyn; subsidized performance space at the A.R.T./New York Theatres; funding through grant and loan programs; training through workshops and peer roundtables; and convenings for the field with a special focus on the needs of small nonprofit theatres. These programs, along with advocacy efforts, have positioned A.R.T./New York as a thought-leader in the New York theatre community and the arts citywide.
A.R.T./New York is launching a number of new initiatives in grant-making and education programs designed to address the needs of the field, including Diversifying Our Organizations, an effort to strengthen and diversify nonprofit theatres and their boards through cohort-based education and field research; Access A.R.T./New York, a program designed to educate the field and create access for artists, administrators, and audience members with disabilities; and Body Autonomy, a new set of programs and partnerships that strive to end harassment in the theatre profession. A.R.T./New York was recently selected by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation to administer its New York Theatre Program which provides critical funding to 35-40 theatre companies.
The Senior Manager of Institutional Giving will be motivated to successfully work with a diverse staff, Board, and membership and possess strong interpersonal skills and attention to detail. A dynamic commitment to A.R.T./New York’s mission, core values, and a passion to help grow our contributed resources is critical. This is an ideal position for a highly motivated individual to utilize their grant research, strategic writing, and donor cultivation skills to strengthen and sustain A.R.T./New York’s fiscal infrastructure. A.R.T./New York provides professional development opportunities for its staff to broaden their knowledge and increase their skill sets. A.R.T./New York’s FY19 annual budget is $4.8 million (of which 55% comes from contributed sources).
The position will report to the Director of Development and Executive Director, and will work as a part of a four-person Development department which also includes a Manager of Individual Giving and Events and a Development Associate.
· Manage A.R.T./New York’s institutional donor portfolio of 30+ public and private funders representing approximately $2M in earned revenue. Develop annual budget goals in collaboration with the Executive Director and Director of Development.
· Research and identify prospective corporate, foundation, and government donors to support programmatic activities, general operating support, and capital planning.
· Maintain the grants calendar including tracking deadlines, correspondence with funders/prospects, and the arrival of gifts/pledges through DonorPerfect.
· Prepare grant proposals, reports, and strategic communications for foundations, corporations, and government agencies.
· Develop presentations, letters of inquiry, fundraising materials, and other communications for the cultivation of institutional donors.
· Partner with A.R.T./New York staff and Board of Directors to maintain a clear and detailed understanding of A.R.T./New York’s mission, multi-varied programs and services, and the members we impact to create compelling proposals and donor materials.
· Collaborate closely and extensively with A.R.T./New York’s Programs, Facilities, and Finance staff to manage grant-supported programs, including program progress and achievements and budget components, and ensure compliance with all grant requirements.
· Organize and participate in donor visits, tours, and presentations as well as other stewardship opportunities in collaboration with the Executive Director and Director of Development.
· Support other development activities including the annual gala and other fundraising events.
· Other duties as assigned.

· Excellent writing, communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
· Willingness to gain an in-depth understanding of the opportunities and challenges facing small- to mid-sized NYC theatre companies, under-served theatres of color, and the theatre field at large.
· A desire to work with a motivated team of fundraisers.
· The ability to work successfully with a diverse staff, board, and membership.
· Ability to prioritize multiple assignments and meet tight deadlines.
· Comfort with strategic communications.
· A desire to grow professionally and personally at a critical moment in A.R.T./New York’s history.
· A commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and a demonstrated willingness to work across differences.
A bachelor’s degree and 3-4 years of experience in grant writing and institutional donor relations, or equivalent combination of education and related experience, is required. A background in non-profit arts, service, and/or social justice organizations is a plus. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, and DonorPerfect (or similar donor database) is required.
This is an exempt, full-time position generally scheduled as Monday through Friday 10am-6pm. Salary is $70,000 per annum.
