Casting "Bee" by by Sean Michael Welch and Melody Erfani. Synopsis: LES Shakespeare is producing a new work this season based on Izat Erfani's life in Langarud, Iran, set in the 1940s. The focus of the work is a young woman trying to give her children more, and the play will intertwine that with the interviews from others currently in the Middle East and those who have moved to the U.S.
Director states: "This piece has received a residency in Maine for one week and the Program is designed to build creative opportunities between passionate people in a beautiful place. Artists from all over the country come to develop new works of performance in a pastoral and supportive environment. Teams of artists live, work, eat and plan together, creating a temporary creative community and supporting one another in their individual and collective goals. Located in Maine near the water, we have been given one week to work on the development of Bee. At the end of the week, there will be a public reading of the play. I am looking for an ensemble that is creative and open to playing. My process when devising a piece is research and collaboration. I believe collaboration is at the core of truly exceptional theater work. I create a supportive environment that enables actors to feel comfortable to explore choices. Another important aspect to me working on cultural devised piece is table work and more table work. I believe in facilitating critical thinking, creativity, and fearlessness which I strongly believe leads to taking artistic risks. In my process with adapting and devising new works I use improvisation within the rehearsal room. A lot of rich history and situations can be generated."
