DESCRIPTION

The Human Resources (HR) Director of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival (OSF) is a key leadership position that reports to the OSF Executive Director and supports the personnel needs of over 500 employees in the artistic and administrative functions of the organization. The HR Director is responsible for all aspects of OSFʼs HR activity, including benefit negotiations and administration, safety and wellness programs, workers compensation, compliance with labor laws, promulgation of administration policies and employee guides, development of training programs, and the maintenance of systems for personnel administration. The HR Director is responsible for conducting this work while ensuring that practices and methodologies are in alignment with the Festivalʼs commitment to be an equitable, diverse and inclusive institution.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions**):

  1. Attends Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion, (ED&I) sexual harassment, and any other anti-bias training and workshops as scheduled by the institution.
  2. Model and support the mission and values.
  3. Reviews and makes recommendations to OSF leadership for improvement of the organizationʼs policies, procedures and practices on personnel matters.
  4. Maintains responsibility for organization compliance with federal, state and local legislation pertaining to all personnel matters.
  5. Develop strategic HR plans and policies, and review current policies to ensure their effectiveness and adherence to the organizationʼs commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion
  6. Provide and administer OSF health and retirement benefits plans
  7. Recommend, acquire and administer HR information systems, that collect, organize, and analyze HR information and promote understanding of and effective administration of HR resources
  8. In collaboration with Finance and IT, recommend, acquire and develop HR information systems. Administer systems that collect, organize, and analyze HR information and promote understanding of and effective administration of HR resources
  9. Assists executive management in the annual review, preparation and administration of the organizationʼs wage and salary program.
  10. Collaborate with OSFʼs Chief Financial Officer to ensure that staffing and benefit plans support budget objectives
  11. Manage the HR Department budget and supervise the staff of the HR department.
  12. Review and administer compensation programs and levels that comply with regulations, promote equity, and attract, motivate and retain talent in a manner that is in alignment with the organizationʼs commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion

  6. Work with OSF managers and supervisors to identify recruitment opportunities and design recruitment plans that support and ensure racially and ethnically diverse candidate pools for open positions.
  7. Administer the recruitment process using appropriate technology to attract and connect with racially and ethnically diverse candidates across disciplines from across the nation.
  8. Track information about OSF recruitments in order to inform managers and supervisor and comport with recruitment goals and metrics
  9. Design and administer effective employee onboarding and off-boarding processes
  10. In partnership with the OSF Director of Equity, creates HR policies, procedures, and initiatives that support and are in alignment with the organizationʼs commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  11. Coordinate with the OSF Director of Equity to promote programs and training opportunities that promote and increase the understanding and appreciation of diversity in OSFʼs workforce
  12. Review and administer compensation programs and levels that promote equity across the organization
  13. Develops and administers programs, initiatives, and approaches that boost and support the maintenance of a culture of inclusion in the OSF workplace
  14. Recommend and administer programs and policies that increase employee engagement at OSF and boost morale and a culture of inclusion
  15. Conduct surveys and report on employee satisfaction in the workplace
  16. Measure and report on all trends in employee engagement, and promote practices that lead to the retention of employees
  17. Coordinate or conduct exit interviews to determine reasons behind separations.
  18. Create and administer performance management processes with documented routine positive and corrective coaching and feedback.
  19. Create and implement development plans for employees.
  20. Provide training in using coaching and feedback documents for boosting career and performance goals.
  21. Provide professional and career development opportunities.
  22. Oversee the administration of safety programs and developing and administering an OSF wellness program.
  23. Oversee inspections of OSF work areas, manage safety and emergency drills, and maintain systems for tracking and managing claims, workers compensation and other related insurance records
  24. Oversee staff that administer employee and volunteer safety programs throughout OSF programs and units.

  26. Manage and administer an employee complaints process to ensure prompt response and resolution of issues
  27. Offer counseling services to employees as appropriate
  28. Perform employee background checks and verify information.
  29. Contribute with leadership to negotiations with employee collective bargaining groups at OSF.
  30. Communicate policies pertaining to Human Resources, compensation and benefits. Ensure legal compliance and serve as primary legal contact on employee issues

REQUIREMENTS
Work Experience: 
A Bachelorʼs degree and five to 10 yearsʼ related experience or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience. A Masterʼs degree in an HR or related field is desirable, as is a professional credential such as the SHRM Senior Certified Professional.

Qualifications/skills: Current or previous experience in a nonprofit organization, especially in the entertainment or theatre industry is highly desired

Hours Requirements: This is a full-time administrative leadership position, with an expected schedule of work on Monday through Friday, 9`00 a.m. to 5`30 p.m. OSFʼs artistic positions follow a different schedule, with work hours on Tuesdays through Sundays, at varying times. The OSF HR Director may be required to provide guidance and service as needed during these days and times, and attendance at OSF events and performances may occasionally require duty outside of the expected schedule.

Travel is primarily local during the business day, although occasional out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected for the purposes of recruitment, organizational representation, and networking.

Preferred Qualifications & Skills: Fluency in Spanish is desirable but not required.
