DESCRIPTION

Casting "Essays for the Future," an evening of performance inspired by four of Audre Lorde's essays. Each essay takes up different questions about how we can create a world that is filled with more compassionate, love, and rigor. Seeking actors, musicians, writers and dancers. 

Rehearsal and Production Dates & Locations

Performers will be needed for 3 weeks of rehearsal. 2 of these weeks will be the final week of rehearsal and tech/show week (March 25-April 8). The first week of rehearsal will be creating and responding to one of the essays. If you can't make the final 2 weeks, don't submit.

Dates ABSOLUTELY needed:
final rehearsal week: March 25-26 an 28-30;
tech week: April 2-5;
performances: April 6-8;

1 OF THESE OTHER WEEKS NEEDED
will need to available for one of these other weeks: Feb. 26-March 3, March 4-10, March 11-17, or March 18-24. Rehearsals will be weekday evenings (6:30-10:30 p.m.) and midday on weekends (10 a.m.-2 p.m. or 11 a.m.-3 p.m.). Production runs in NYC.

AUDITIONS
prepare: a 1-minute contemporary monologue; a 1-minute classical monologue; and 1 minute of a special skill (singing, dancing, acrobatics, musical instrument, jokes, juggling, poetry, cooking, drawing, beat boxing, anything that helps casting learn about who you are as a person and artist).


About the Director:
Katherine Wilkinson is a director and creative producer based in New York City. Katherine has spent the last decade creating new ensemble driven performance throughout the US and abroad. Her work has been seen in Australia, India, Japan, Greece, Mexico, and England. Katherine is the founder and producing artistic director of Gale Theatre Company in Austin, TX. Gale Theatre is dedicated to developing new performance and fostering ongoing artistic training and collaboration. As a music video artist, her work has premiered on Billboard and Vice. Katherine strives to make performance that is aesthetically arresting, physically daring, ensemble driven and fueled by burning questions about what it means to be alive today. Katherine holds a BA in Performance Studies from UNC Chapel Hill and is currently pursuing her MFA in Directing at Columbia University (Class of 2019). Katherine is the faculty assistant to Anne Bogart and recently worked for Robert Wilson and The Watermill Center. For more info, visit
