Abominable Fancy - Stephen Bracco
New York, NY
Director for provocative full-length comedy, “Abominable Fancy” for 3 performances in late October or first week in November with the Indie Fringe Festival at The Secret Theater in LIC Queens.
The bulk of Director’s directing resume will be in live theater. Director will have a resume that includes directing plenty of comedies as well as classics. Your work will show a predilection for the unconventional and provocative, and working with actors to explore characters.
Notes on the play: Fancy is a transgender woman of 30, an Upper East Side trust-fund drunk who lives with a talking human liver who used to be her psychotherapist. Fancy is magic and she turned her shrink into a spare liver for when her current liver fails. The role of Fancy will be played by an already cast male actor performing in drag. The liver is a green hand puppet, and the puppeteer will be in a green unitard. There are a total of 7 characters in this two-act farcical yet edgy play.
Director will attend auditions and callbacks with playwright/producer in Ripley Grier Midtown very soon in August.
Director will schedule approximately 80 hours of rehearsal.
Director will work with actors proactively to build characters with specific and engaging choices. Director will make sure actors are clear on characters’ motivations. Director will create engaging, specific blocking that has a purpose.
Director will take in the ideas of the costume designer and set designer to be hired by producer and provide feedback/approval of design ideas.
Director will work independent of playwright in rehearsals. Playwright will attend rehearsals only to see run-thrus and provide feedback and clarify any questions from actors or director.
Director will attend any necessary tech rehearsals at the theater in October, and eventually will be the contact person between the production and the theater. Producer/playwright will eventually hire a stage manager, who will be running lights/sound for show.
Director will, like everyone in the production, proactively market this production through their many active social media links, and you'll invite lots of friends to come see the play!
